CTO Forum 1: Technology Evolution 2020

In this forum, three CTOs will address the following questions. How will internet evolve from today till 2020? What kind of changes do we foresee in future internet capabilities? How will operators meet the cost challenge and network economics for sustainability? Can the operators enable the digital lifestyle / connected living? What kind of transformation will be required by telcos to support extremely low latency requirements? What are the key changes in the network architecture to accomplish the evolution of convergence (Fixed-Mobile, TDM-IP, Offline-Online, Physical-Digital etc )? What kind of challenges cyber security will pose for operators in the future? What actions operators need to take to remain proactively secure & ensuring risk mitigation?

Amandeep Singh has over 24 years of diverse experience in telecommunications sector encompassing mobile , fixed and long distance networks. He has worked across geographies (~ 25 countries) in various roles as CTO for strategising & managing state of the art telecom networks including 2G / 3G / 4G LTE / IT & Systems. He has handled complex & large scale technology transformations. Amandeep also brings rich wealth of experience in towerco business. He is an engineer by profession & holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Electrical Communications from India.



Dato’ Abdul Satar bin Mohamed is the Chief Network Officer in Celcom Axiata since 2010. He has over 30 years of experience in Mobile Telecommunications, working for the vendors and the operators in Malaysia and abroad.


Dato’ Satar started his career with Ericsson Malaysia in 1984 and moved to USA in 1987 to join Ericsson Radio System in US. His roles are mainly to support Mc Caw Cellular in LA and Ft Lauderdale. He left Ericsson in 1992 to join several mobile operators in Malaysia including Celcom. In 2003, he rejoined Celcom as head of Regional Operation and promoted to the current position until today. Dato’ Satar is also a board member of Celcom Transmission Sdn. Bhd. and Celcom Timur Sabah Berhad.


Dato’ Satar is responsible for the company’s technology development and implementing all the technology initiatives for Celcom. He is also playing an integral role in the company’s strategic direction, development and future growth of the network.



Giorgio Migliarina holds a Masters (Sc) in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy and an MBA from INSEAD, France. Giorgio was previously a Partner at McKinsey & Company based in London and Beijing, serving some of the world’s leading operators and high tech companies. Prior to joining McKinsey, Giorgio helped launch Infostrada SpA, Italy’s second fixed line operator, where he held positions in network planning and corporate development. Before Infostrada, he worked with Olivetti SpA.


As TM’s Chief Technology and Innovation Officer (CTIO), Giorgio is responsible for Network, IT, R&D and overall technical operations. He is also overseeing the transformation of the Managed Accounts cluster in TM, with direct responsibilities for the Enterprise and ICT & BPO businesses. He was named Asia’s CTO of the Year 2012 by Asia Communication Award.



Jonathan Ang is the Director or Solution Strategy and Marketing for Huawei South Pacific Region. With 13 years experience working with more than 25 carriers in over 15 countries across Asia and Middle East, he is recognized in the telecommunication industry in the areas of business transformation, strategy consultation and user experience. He has successfully implemented several digital transformation programs in content manage service, cloud hosting and video services.


Jonathan previously held Key Account Management portfolio for two top carriers in Malaysia and has delivered 3G/LTE services, Next Generation Packet Core, Transmission and VAS to over 20million subscribers. Previous position in global marketing and engineering, he has experience of end to end delivery for both pre and post sales.





CTO Forum 2: Achieving Vision 2020 - Key Technology Challenges for Emerging and Developed Economies

This forum features CTOs from three different countries; India, Singapore, and Indonesia. They will discuss on various issues, including; How much spectrum will be required for delivering services of the future? What are the key spectrum bands need to be looked at? Will device evolution drive technology adoption or will technology evolution drive device evolution? How can telcos contribute to smart cities / smart economies across nations? How will operators leverage big data for this purpose? Will microwave technology remain relevant by 2020 or beyond? Will small cells deployment gain traction? Will operators be able to leverage NFV & Cloud technologies? What kind of quality of services the customers would expect by 2020? How can operators meet those requirements cost efficiently?

Yessie Dianty Yosetya serves as Chief Service Management Officer (CTO/CIO) of PT XL Axiata, Indonesia. A recognized business and technology solution expert, Yessie has 15+years of experience in Telecommunication Industry, with a solid technical knowledge both in IT and network.


Involved in establishment of Digital Service unit in XL, championing mobile-Finance, ecommerce, digital advertising, Internet of Things, & Cloud. Experienced in delivering complex projects, from convergence billing, managed-service operations, to network sharing and NFV implementation.


Yessie holds BSc. in Electrical Engineering and attended executive programs at INSEAD.



Denis Seek joined M1 in November 2014 as Director, Engineering and was appointed as Chief Technical Officer in May 2015. He has over 22 years of work experience in the telecommunications industry.


Prior to joining M1, Mr Seek was with Maxis Berhad and was based in Malaysia for more than eight years. His last held position there was Head of Technology, Strategy and Network Planning. Mr Seek started his career with Singapore Telecommunications Limited where he was involved in the planning and implementation of the initial mobile network in the Philippines. Thereafter, he was with M1 as Head of Radio Planning and Technology Development for more than 10 years before joining Maxis Berhad.


Mr Seek holds a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering (First Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore, a "Diplôme d'ingénieur" (equivalent to a Master's degree in Telecommunications) from the "Institut National des Telecommunications", France and a Master of Business Administration with distinction from Warwick University in the UK.




Anil Tandan is the Chief Technology Officer for Idea Cellular Limited. He has been associated with the GSM industry for the last 18 years starting with Fascel Gujarat (now Vodafone Gujarat) as Sr. Vice President Operations. He has been CTO, Tata Cellular, AP and then was responsible for rolling out a green field 1800 MHz GSM network for Idea in Delhi in 2002 as the Head of Networks, before he took over as CTO, Idea Cellular in April 2003. During his tenure as the CTO, Idea has moved from an eight Service Area Operation to a Pan India 2G Operation covering all 22 Service Areas. He has been instrumental in the launch of 3G in 13 Service Areas in 2010-11 and LTE FDD in 10 Service Areas in 2015-16 for Idea Cellular.


He has been Chairman of COAI Technology Committee & Vice-Chairman GSM India. Anil is an M.Tech from IIT, Kharagpur in Microwave and Radar Technologies and has also qualified on the Advance Management Programme (AMP) at the Harvard Business School.


Earlier in his career, Anil served with the India Army (Corps of Signals) for 30 years before he took premature retirement as a Brigadier in 1998.
