A. Travel Information

 
Kuala Lumpur is served by two main airports; Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2). ICC2016 delegates can travel from the airports to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) through various modes of ground transportation.

KLIA is Malaysia’s main international airport and is also one of the major airports of South East Asia. It is located approximately 50 kilometres from the city centre of Kuala Lumpur.

KLIA 2 is the world's largest purpose-built terminal dedicated for low-cost carriers. KLIA 2 terminal is just 2 km away from KLIA.

KL Sentral is the Malaysia’s largest transit hub, which supports six rail networks, including the KLIA Express Rail Link, KLIA Transit, RAPID KL (Putra line), KTM Komuter, KTM Intercity and KL Monorail Services.

B. Ground Transport (From Airport to KLCC)
 
1. By KLIA Ekspreswww.kliaekspres.com
The KLIA Ekspres is a non-stop, Airport rail link service between the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the Kuala Lumpur Sentral (KL Sentral). The journey takes 28 minutes with a fee of MYR55/one way. Travelers can purchase the tickets either by automated ticketing machines or by ticketing staff at the stations. 

From KL Sentral Station, you will have to catch a metered taxi to get to KLCC and the nearby hotels. Alternatively, for those with light baggage, they can use the cheaper Light Rail Transit (LRT) ("Kelana Jaya Line") service from KL Sentral to KLCC Station (KLCC Station is 5 stations away from KL Sentral). At KLCC Station, turn left after exiting the turnstiles and walk through the Suria KLCC shopping centre Concourse level to the Centre Court. Turn left and make your way past Cold Storage to the Guardian Pharmacy where there is an air-conditioned pedestrian walkway through to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

2. By Taxi 
For convenience, especially for those with big luggage, it is advisable that attendees take the airport taxis direct to the KLCC and nearby hotels. Airport taxis both budget and premier are available at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on a 24-hour basis. Coupons can be purchased at the taxi coupon counters located at International Arrival Hall and Domestic Arrival Hall.

3. By Bus 
Shuttle bus service is available from KLIA and KLIA 2 to KL Sentral. Please ride on the Kelana Jaya Line LRT from KL Sentral to KLCC Station.

C. Transportation within Kuala Lumpur
LRT
The Light Rail Transit (LRT) covers a distance of 12km and consists of 13 stations. Daily operating hours are between 0600 - 2400. Season tickets can be purchased at any LRT station.
 
Monorail
The Kuala Lumpur Monorail system in Malaysia serves 11 stations running 8.6 km and its route starts from Titiwangsa Station to the KL Sentral Station. Daily operation hours are 0600 to 2400 and it is operating at 3-minute intervals.
 
Commuter Trains
KTM Komuter operates speedy electric train services from the KL railway station to designated points within the city as well as to Port Klang-KL Sentral-Batu Caves and Sg Gadut-KL Sentral-Tg Malim.
 
City Buses
Major bus lines service the city and suburban areas is Rapid KL
 
Taxis
All taxis in KL are fitted with meters and can be hailed at designated taxi stands or booked through phone.
 
Car Rental
Cars can be hired from car rental agencies. Drivers must be in possession of a valid international driving license. Drivers must always drive on the left side of the road.
 


General Information
 

The vibrant capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is a melting pot of cultures. It is a city of contrast, equally rich in heritage and urban excitement. It is as colourful and exciting as the many cultures that live here. Kuala Lumpur is located on the west coast of the Malaysian Peninsular in between Thailand and Singapore. Kuala Lumpur is located half an hour away from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) by train, or 50 minutes away by taxi.
 
Climate
Malaysia enjoys a tropical climate with warm weather all year round. Temperatures range from low of 21°C (70°F) to high of 32°C (90°F). The highlands are cooler with temperatures ranging from 15°C (59° F) to 25°C (77°F). Annual rainfall varies from 2,000mm to 2,500mm.
 
Language
Bahasa Malaysia or Malay is the official language while English is widely spoken. Most Malaysians can speak at least two languages, Malay and English, while some are tri-lingual, being able to converse in Mandarin and Tamil too. The indigenous groups also speak various languages and dialects.
 
Currency
The currency in Malaysia is Malaysian Ringgit, indicated as 'MYR'. Visit www.xe.com for the latest exchange rates.
Foreign Exchange Booths are common and clearly state the exchange rate for all major currencies.
Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are located at major bank branches, most shopping malls, airports, bus terminals, etc. Note that ATMs in Malaysia require a six-digit PIN. Please be advised that if your ATM PIN is more or less than six digits, it should be change before departing.
 
Banking Hours
Generally banking hours in Malaysia are from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm (Mondays - Fridays), although some banks do extend their banking hours. Automated Teller Machines (ATM) are available at convenient locations throughout the country. All the main credit cards and travellers cheques are accepted in major institutions and an ever growing number of shops and restaurants.
